Or is that happy spew year? Or happy waking up at 3 am to the sound of your younger son puking in your hair year? Yeah, whatever it it, so far it isn't nice.
I was going to post about our tamale making extravaganza, but that's going to have to wait. Mr. Dog and I stayed up too late ringing in the new year. The tamales took just about forever to cook, while we waited we celebrated the new year in our own special ways. He surfed the web, I watched reruns of Law and Order. It was pretty much perfect.
Unfortunately, shortly after we went to bed, Little Dog joined us and not long after that the puking began and has not yet stopped. I'm hoping this isn't some kind of omen for the new year. Right after midnight, Mr. Dog burned his finger on an under cabinet kitchen light, said it sizzled. Then a sick child in the middle of the night, not looking good 2009. But we'll be eating our cornbread, blackeyed peas and greens today. And lentils for an extra boost, I'm not taking any chances.

Happy Spew Year - it doesn't get any better than that. Sorry for Little Dog.
And we skipped out on the blackeyed peas and cornbread this year. Since it'll be a first, I'm a little nervous. Maybe I'll sneak some mashed up peas and corn meal into the burgers we are grilling with friends in a couple of hours.
Sorry to hear the little one is sick :(
Happy New Year and when he gets better... Plan to Shine in 2009!
Maybe you're just getting all the lousy stuff out of the way early.
Beth: What are you thinking? Skipping the black eyed peas and greens? I even force fed them to my kids.
Insta mom: I sure hope so. I don't want to wander through 2009 smelling vaguely of vomit.
I have never ever heard of this black-eyed peas tradition. Now it is EVERYWHERE on the blogs. Heh. Maybe that is why last year was so shiteous.
Happy new year!
