Fancy that

The boys have a mutual hobby. They try to beat the crap out of each other. It used to really freak me out. Ok, who am I kidding, it still does. But the more I read, the more I talk to other moms the more I find it is pretty normal. I'm actually becoming pretty surprised boys with brothers ever survive to adulthood, but I digress.

Today they managed to come up with a new game of that variety. It involved dueling using soft foam sticks. Essentially they chased each other all over the living room yelling "HA!" and "YAH!" and "OOH!" as they smacked each other with two weapons each. I tried to break it up at first, but after a about ten minutes I came to realize that they were both enjoying the battle and I didn't need to get in the way. It wasn't quiet, but it was as near to mommy time as I was likely to get tonight.

The game continued for nearly 30 minutes with no clear winner. And then that changed. Little Dog managed to fend off Big Dog's attack and claim the big prize. He loudly declared "Now the shoes are mine!" then slipped on my yellow ultra girly shantung silk flats. With ruffles. Yeah, it turns out the big winner of the battle got mommy's shoes. Am I raising the weirdest boys in America? I think so.

hahaha that sounds like an excellent prize though! I get that same nervous feeling when my puppy finds another dog to wrestle with at the dog park. They are having fun, but it looks like they are actually fighting.

LOVE the prize ;)

And it's not just boys, I'm afraid. When we were younger, my sister and I made the square patch of hallway between our two bedroom doors our "hitting square" and whomever caught the other in that space, had free reign to wail (whale?) on them. Lucky for me, my door was positioned such that I could barrel down the hall and jump over it; my sister would try that, but would have to do a 90 degree twist in the middle, which never seemed to work. She got much worse bruises from crashing into the walls all the time than anything I ever did to her, though, I must say ;)

I would totally fight for shoes.

My boys used to fight when they played, too. But they couldn't hold a candle to their step-sisters. Those girls still fight. And they leave bald patches in their hair. Scary!

my sister and I used to fight, but not for sport. Or at least not that I remember.

And yes, they are a lot like puppies wrestling at a dog park. A lot of noise and energy but no real malice.

I wanna beat the heck outta someone with a sword, I'll use foam if I have to, takes all the fun out of it. Also, dying to see a pic of these shoes. Did LD put them on or just carry them around like a trophy?

I think even boys and girls fight. My brother and I used to beat the Cr*p out of each other and it was really just for fun. we'd escalate until someone really got hurt by accident. Then one day he was 6ft tall!
