One foot, two foot...wait, I guess I'd better just have one.

Trying to get out of the house in the morning is a chore for me. The lure of my soft snuggly bed aside, I have to manage to shower, dress, pull my stuff together and get out of the house. It doesn't sound like much, but it seems there is an infestation of shoe elves in my house. Or at least that is the only logical explanation I can come up with (and no, I do not need clarification on the word logical).

Take, for example, this morning. I'm dressed, caffeinated, ready to go apart from the shoes. I go to my shoe rack and fine one of the red shoes I wanted to wear. One. Unfortunately the shoe rack is right near the location where I found the giant spider hiding in the laundry, so I had to call in reinforcements to try to locate my single shoe's mate. Mr. Dog dug through the laundry and still came up empty handed. He rejected my theory that the giant spider ate the shoe, so it must be the work of shoe elves plain and simple.

Fine I thought, I'd go to the hallway and see if there were shoes there I could wear. Found one aqua shoe that would go with my outfit and then could not find the match. See, it's a real problem. I would have worn my black shoes, but those have also been unmatched, this time not by shoe elves but by a great Dane with a need to destroy footwear.

As it stands I'm wearing my sandals to work. They don't clash with the outfit but they do highlight my need for a pedicure. I will be trying not to leave my desk today. Damned shoe elves.

My kids have the same one-shoe problem. If the elves take a shoe from me, they take pairs, so I don't know they're missing until I am looking for them. You could have always worn two different colored shoes.

I'd like to have shoe elves. Not the kind that steal shoes, but the kind like in fairy tales who make shoes at night while you sleep.

I seem to recall being one of the little elves that would often locate your shoes in the hallway closet under mounds of clothing :)

There is only one answer to your problem. You need more shoes.
